Very excited to be in Philadelphia and will spend the day today at the Barnes Museum. What I understand about it so far is that it was a private collection of Impressionist paintings that was in a building outside of downtown Philadelphia. It had limited hours and complicated directives from the donor as dictated by his will. The foundation accomplished major changes, in that it has a dedicated building near other downtown museums, yet it has respected the wishes of Barnes himself, as to how the paintings are grouped, and displayed. They have replicated in many ways the details of the original site but have improved light with clearstory constructions and many other improvements. I look forward to spending the day there, and will have some exciting things to relate about pieces I suppose I have not seen before. More later.
